by Oresti Patricios. The new series of Lucozade TV ads from Ogilvy & Mather Joburg feature testing scenarios. The best ad, for me, is “Performance Art”.

Ad of the Week: Suzelle meets Nataniël at Checkers
by Oresti Patricios (@orestaki) I can’t always say that our choice for Ad of the Week is a ‘slam dunk’, but this week there’s no doubt. Checkers has scored a massive win by pairing its brand ambassador, Nataniël, with new local YouTube sensation, ‘Suzelle’ of Suzelle DIY.
Ad of the Week: Hello, Cape Town weekend!
by Oresti Patricios (@orestaki) Cape Town Tourism has been running a fun, yet powerful, online campaign by Design Infestation that promotes the city as a destination “for all seasons, for all people”. Whether you’re a foodie, an adrenalin junkie or a culture vulture, the message in the advertising is that Cape Town has something that will appeal to you.
Ad of the Week: Let’s go to the zoo! Tonight!
by Oresti Patricios (@orestaki) Get ready for an overload of cuteness in this week’s Ad of the Week, which is all about the Johannesburg Zoo’s “Night Tour Shadows” activation. The project is the brainchild of Y&R South Africa, Johannesburg, and it is full of imagination, engagement and fun.
Ad of the Week: Making match night legendary
by Oresti Patricios (@orestaki) Tagged as #ChampionTheMatch, M&C Saatchi Abel’s brand-content idea for EUFA Champion League sponsor, Heineken, was to bring the world of the league closer to South African fans. The concept? To stage a fanzone event in Pimville, Soweto, for local fans.
Ad of the Week: The Land Rover legacy #CelebrateDefender
by Oresti Patricios. #CelebrateDefender, the farewell campaign for the Land Rover Defender, from Y&R Johannesburg, certainly cuts through the clutter.
Ad of the Week: Seeing around corners
by Oresti Patricios (@orestaki) I am always excited by imaginative uses for billboards. And this is definitely the case with the Lexus Adaptive Headlights billboard created by FCB Cape Town for a high-visibility location at Cape Town International airport.
Ad of the Week: The horse whisperer
by Oresti Patricios (@orestaki) This week, still under the overarching theme of “Things that really matter”, we have no choice but to give Nedbank another nod, for “Reins” — a TV ad aimed at the business-banking client. And, once again, the execution of the television commercial is by agency, Joe Public, with production by Velocity Films.
Ad of the Week: When you talk to me, it’s pure electricity
by Oresti Patricios (@orestaki) In an online activation campaign for test-driving the new BMW i3 electric car, NATIVE VML has built a dedicated microsite targeting the luxury-brand car buyer with a preference for ‘green’ and sustainable alternatives. A talking AI is built into the website, making it completely different to all the other car-brand sites one finds.
Ad of the Week: Lions with lightsabers [Oh yes!]
by Oresti Patricios (@orestaki) Now the cat videos that dominate them interwebs usually depict domestic cats, with their strange positions of sleep or cute play, but this doesn’t mean we don’t love the big cats. And this week’s ad is all about the big ’uns — those kings and queens of the jungle — Panthera leo!
