Giant quilt turns into a great billboard
Hot off the heals of their Gold Loerie-winning Billboard of last year in which they built a billboard out of 6000 puzzle pieces over a four week period, Allan Gray and its ad agency King James have once again pushed the boundaries of outdoor media with their latest billboard that was erected at Cape Town International recently. In line with Allan Gray’s ongoing strategy of “anything worthwhile usually takes time”, over a three month period a giant three metre by twelve metre quilt was stitched out of twenty four different fabrics, with over nine hundred individual squares. The message ‘Patience is our virtue’ is patterned into the design. This quilt was then literally hung on the billboard.

Lucky the three legged Cheetah launch the Golf 6
Ogilvy Cape Town has come up with a wonderful ad for the launch of the Golf 6 that is bound to end up being one of our favourate ads for the year.
The team flew up to Namibia, which has the world’s largest wild cheetah population, and found with a woman called Marlice van Vuuren who rehabilitates wild animals, including cheetahs at her game farm near Windhoek. She drove a three-legged cheetah that she was rehabilitating around in her bakkie. The Golf 6 found its launch star. Its director was Henry-Alex Rubin, an Oscar-nominated documentary director now directing commercials.

Will the beatle and the bee move metal?
“The brief was to produce a retail-driven campaign for the Polo range that ‘moved metal’ and built the brand – basically to advertise a good price without detracting from the emotional aspects of brand equity. We also know that in this tough economic climate, creativity cuts through and gets results,” says Ogilvy Cape Town Managing Director, Gavin Levinsohn, on the campaign his agency created for Volkswagen Polo. The campaign comprises of two 25-second TV commercials, two print ads, online, e-mailers and dealer advertising.
Thirteen floors of support for Lions Super 14 rugby team
Auto & General Insurance has wrapped its thirteen-floor head quarters in Richmond, Johannesburg with a 1862.22m² graphical tribute to the Lions Super 14 rugby team. Printing the massive sticker took 84 straight hours on Media Foundry’s HP Scitex Exel 1500 printer and, applying it to the surface of the building took two weeks. A crew of four people, three in the gondola and one at street level, were involved in the installation, meticulously applying the sticker using squeegies while suspended at heights of up to 45 metres off the ground.
