Ad of the Week: Fighting apathy with empathy
by Oresti Patricios (@orestaki) This week I am nominating a digital/social media campaign for #AdoftheWeek. It’s called “Get Me to 21” and it’s an unusual concept in terms of marketing and publicity. The appeal is for organ donors to sign up, because Jenna Lowe needs lung-replacement surgery, and there are currently no donors available.
The Ad Exec: The diminishing returns of pitch culture
by Tom Fels (@thomasfels) I was astounded to see the launch of a new pitch app in the Netherlands — built by an agency — that assists clients to select a roster of prospective agencies. To my mind, it is an accelerator of a type of pitch culture in which clients are trading multiple agencies’ time, expertise and energy for short-term gain.

Ad of the Week: Not playing ‘litely’ in the beer market
by Oresti Patricios (@orestaki) Take a beer bottle. It doesn’t have a face or limbs. To animate it and give it character requires something special in the hands of skilled artists; and this is what Amstel and Owen Kessel Leo Burnett have done with the launch campaign for Amstel Lite: ‘Make Your Play’.
Motive: Digital addiction — the future needs to be #Balanced
by Prakash Patel (@prakashpatel_1) The definition of addiction by our friends at Wikipedia, in less than 140 characters, “is the continued repetition of behaviour despite adverse consequences, or a neurological impairment leading to such behaviour’s”. So what does this have to do with marketing, advertising, management, leadership or even parenthood for that matter? Nothing or everything?
