Chicken Licken Singing Burger

This ad opens on two “slackers” in a car outside a Chicken Licken, they have just bought meals. On opening the burger box one of the guys discovers that his burger is singing  “Love me Tender”. The other guy then exclaims that they are going to be rich and the ad cuts to a montage of their lifestyles post their discovery of the singing burger. The montage portrays the fact that the burger has become a global phenomenal and the two “slackers” have now taken advantage of the privileges that their discovery has afforded them. What finally happens to the meal ticket? Find out for yourself!

Fruit getting fresh, cheeky veg…

Over the next couple of days MarkLives will be featuring the work of Alistair Palmer. His work revolves around design and art. Identity & advertising for a food market at 44 Stanley Rd in Joburg. “The idea behind the logo was to have a clear identity but the actual logo could change according to seasons or what was being communicated. The posters brought the produce to life, they (the produce) told jokes and teased each other a little.”

How to showcase all your best work in one instant snapshot

rex web design

MarkLives loves the new Rex website. It’s effective and elegant and uses open-source. But mostly we love it because it makes us greedy – greedy to browse and click and we don’t know many sites that does that anymore – certainly not any corporate sites. It makes their work speak for itself. It also made us envious. Greedy and envious. Top that. “We wanted to find a way to effectively show the depth and breadth of the work we do in one instant snapshot – then allow for further in depth investigation by unpacking each project,” says Olivier Schildt from Rex Creative.

The site was developed in-house using free blogging backend and modifying freely available themes. “We are interested in the world around us and we anticipate that the audience is too,” adds Rudo Botha. “So, presenting an ‘open source’ layout allows people to browse what they like, in the way that they like. Little indulgences to click on, and repeat… this made the content more relevant & accessible to a wider audience, it makes the experience more fun!”

COPE says vote for hope

COPE elections

Political party Cope has signed up over 5000m2 of large scale nationwide branding which aims to heighten the party’s profile and spur voters to the polls. The numerous large scale outdoor sites can be seen throughout Gauteng, Cape Town and Durban.  Network BBDO conceptualised the creative work.  Nice to see something other that those boring election posters on lamp posts…

Local media channels see healthy Twitter growth

After jumping from the 5th to the 1st spot on Mark’s Twitter News Ranking Index MyNews24 not only maintained its position but grew its number of followers by more than 450. Radio 702 continued its surge up our rankings from 4th position to 2nd place though in terms of the number of followers it’s not yet seriously challenging MyNews24 for the top spot. It added 327 news users to its follower base. SA Elections, a Twitter and website initiative by The Times came in at 5th place and shows a high level of interest amongst South African Twitter users in the April 22nd elections. Moneyweb also managed to climb two spots. SABC News should be holding fast to the bottom rung since it haven’t bothered updating the channel after its first day online. Only newcomer Rapport (“The biggest AFRIKAANS Sunday newspaper on the planet” – there is only two… Ed) manages worse with no Twitter strategy we can make sense of. It makes more sense to follow Rapport editor Liza Albrecht but don’t expect much Afrikaans from either feed.

Alistair Palmer makes skateboards of clouds

Over the next couple of days MarkLives will be featuring the work of Alistair Palmer. His work revolves around design and art. He loves to work with his hands and enjoys playing with colour and texture. He finished school in 2000, started a business based around contemporary culture, went to an art school and then moved around a bit doing various creative things [and a few not so creative things…insert advertising]. View more of his work at www.flickr.com/photos/alistairpalmer or www.behance.net/alistair.

Big Wood
‘Hero’ – A skateboard deck for Revolution. The cloud is the hero because he rains and keeps us all going.

‘Sleepytime’ – These were clocks in the shapes of clouds, the clouds have their own personalities and one reference for time is displayed in a manner that relates to the clouds personality.

Stamps for Chesterfield

stamps

These stamps appeared on Chesterfield Limited Edition packs. The campaign was conceptionalised by agency Y&R. The brief to illustrators Am I Collective tasked them to “visually interpret a personal journey of discovery in your own style.”

Eight different illustrators came up with these stamps. Because of legislation restricting cigarette advertising MarkLives is only publishing the stamps and not the rest of the packaging of Chesterfield branding.
