After jumping from the 5th to the 1st spot on Mark’s Twitter News Ranking Index MyNews24 not only maintained its position but grew its number of followers by more than 450. Radio 702 continued its surge up our rankings from 4th position to 2nd place though in terms of the number of followers it’s not yet seriously challenging MyNews24 for the top spot. It added 327 news users to its follower base. SA Elections, a Twitter and website initiative by The Times came in at 5th place and shows a high level of interest amongst South African Twitter users in the April 22nd elections. Moneyweb also managed to climb two spots. SABC News should be holding fast to the bottom rung since it haven’t bothered updating the channel after its first day online. Only newcomer Rapport (“The biggest AFRIKAANS Sunday newspaper on the planet” – there is only two… Ed) manages worse with no Twitter strategy we can make sense of. It makes more sense to follow Rapport editor Liza Albrecht but don’t expect much Afrikaans from either feed.
