This is the mighty Daily Sun after all — the biggest daily in the country with 260 000 circulation and 5.3-million readers.

He has had a remarkable career that has seen him edit three newspapers — Rapport, Beeld and The Citizen — as well as time as deputy editor of City Press. Grubstreet spoke to Du Plessis about his plans for the future, the challenges of editing newspapers in a tough market and reporting on the Afrikaans community’s move to the new South Africa.

Stuff magazine: “like lipstick and shoes for men”

Billed as the world’s best-selling gadget magazine, Stuff is known for its laddish tone and accessible take on all things technological. The South African edition, launched in November 2007 by Avusa Media under the editorship of Toby Shapshak, has seen excellent circulation growth, thanks to its editorial mix of gadgets, gear, technology and scantily clad cover models.

Vision for Visi

Visi is one of a handful of truly iconic South African magazines. It has always prided itself in superior design and production values, as well as a quirkiness that resonated with many South Africans. For a while now, though, the public seems to have been less enamoured with the magazine as seen in its declining circulation in recent years.
