SAARF/MarkLives #Top40TVratings: Drama rules supreme, despite elections
by SAARF & MarkLives (@marklives) Surprisingly (or not, depending upon your level of cynicism), drama and not election news appeared to rule most of the Top 10 during the week of 5 — 11 May 2014, our SAARF/MarkLives #Top40TVratings national chart shows, although SABC 1’s Zulu News did climb from the 14th to the eighth spot, and SABC 1’s Xhosa News went from tenth to ninth.
SAARF/MarkLives #Top40TVratings: SAMA 2014 draws big ratings

The 20th Annual South African Music Awards proved to be a major ratings hit for SABC 1 during the week of 28 April — 4 May 2014, the SAARF/MarkLives #Top40TVratings national chart shows. It landed in third position on the chart with an audience of 5 378 929. It grabbed 4th spot on the DStv chart. In addition SAMA 20: Lights, Camera, Fashion! took the 7th and 6th spots on the national and the DStv charts respectively.

by SAARF & MarkLives (@marklives) The week of 21 April — 27 April 2014 shows two news broadcasts enter the SAARF/MarkLives #Top40TVratings Top 10, our national chart shows. News broadcasts in isiZulu, isiXhosa and news headlines on SABC 1 all gained in audience figures. On the DStv chart News in Afrikaans also gained viewers even as it slipped in the rankings. This as national and provincial elections close in on May 7th.

Interestingly, the bounce was not replicated on the DStv chart where the show only climbed one spot — from 21st to 20th. Selimathunzi jumped from no. 18 into the no. 9 slot.

by SAARF & MarkLives (@marklives) The week of 7 April — 13 April 2014 saw SABC 1 score with with the broadcast of various Nedbank Cup soccer games, the SAARF/MarkLives #Top40TVratings chart shows, especially on DStv where four games made it into our Top 40. The Mamelodi Sundowns vs Orlando Pirates (Pirates won 2-1) game also made it into the Top 20 on our national chart.
