Our own analysis uses the previous corresponding reporting period (Q3 2014) rather than the immediate corresponding reporting period (Q2 2015). Press overview
Excluding a large free government newspaper that joined during Q3, total newspapers increased by 0.62%, mainly the result of new free newspaper titles.
- Daily newspapers declined by 5.5%, compared to Q2 2015.
- Weekly newspapers increased by 5.9%, reflecting the seasonal nature of a large soccer title.
- Weekend newspapers declined by 3.6%.
- Free newspapers increased by 2.6%
Magazine overview
Total magazine circulation declined by 4.5%. This decline was evident in all categories, other than B2B magazines ,which reflected a slight increase.
- Consumer magazines declined by 1.9%.
- B2B magazines increased by 0.6%, mainly the result of a new member.
- Custom magazines declined by 6.8%.
Print circulation remains under pressure, reflecting the state of the economy. However, in the consumer magazine sector, some titles have shown solid growth:
- SA Homeowner +6.8% (all in single copy sales)
- Amakhosi +14.1% (seasonal)
- Kick Off +18.3% (seasonal)
- Getaway +24.4% (single copy sales +PDF replica)
- Fairlady +5.5% (single copy sales)
- Good Housekeeping/GoeieHuishouding +10.3% (copy sales and back issues)
- Woman and Home +4.7% (copy sales)
