Letitia du Toit, Tshwane University of Technology (scatter cushions)
The idea for my designs came from the beauty and cyclical element of nature. I wanted to bring a touch of earthiness into South African homes … to remind us all of the importance of water. I used symbols in my design to communicate a message, such as to use water drawn from windpumps.

The material I chose for my design was 100 per cent cotton; I love its natural, clean look. If I could change one thing to make the world a greener place it would be stopping the production of plastic shopping bags. I consider myself a green designer because I use natural fibres.
