MarkLives.com runs a regular slot featuring the best local and international magazine covers every week. We recognise well thought out, powerful and interesting (and hopefully all three in one) magazine covers and celebrate the mix of pragmatism, creativity and personal taste that created each of them. Telling a visual story on your cover is still one of the most effective ways to catch a reader – if done properly!

INTERNATIONAL

FT Weekend Magazine, 26 & 27 May 2012

The London 2012 Olympics will kick off on Friday 27 July the whole world is getting inspired by everything “London”.  From the British flag to red and blue trending in furniture and fashion design and you see touches of the city everywhere these days. The latest cover from FT Weekend Magazine uses a very smart technique of incorporating objects that are uniquely associated with London into the shape of a heart.  It’s clean and simple yet striking – not to mention very red and very London!

Fricote, Issue 7

Everyone needs a smile now and again and upside down frowns are being drawn on random objects around town (or the house) to cheer things up – especially our urban environment. Fricote, a foodie magazine, picked up on this trend and are cocky and cool enough to pull it off. Don’t tell me this did not put a smile on your face!

TV Guide, 21 May 2012

Fans of the hit TV show House will know that Dr. House can’t get through a day without a couple of pills. This beautifully illustrated cover draws you in and encapsulates (sorry about that one) the character of Dr House. The season finale aired on 21 May 2012 and Season 8 was the final season to be recorded.
