My design was inspired by nature. Our environment is very important to me. In general I’m inspired by colour. My design is sustainable as it serves to remind the consumer of the fragility of nature. The material I chose was pure cotton twill for its strength, elegant sheen and natural look. I consider myself a green designer because I’m conscious of the earth and its needs.
Kirsten Skidmore, The Red & Yellow School (shoppers)
I made my shopper out of Woolworths’ plastic bags and then added hessian straps. I looked at ways of re-using plastic and found that a little heat can easily transform it … Then I experimented with my iron! I wanted the consumer to play an active role in recycling the bags. When it’s in production, my idea is to have a place where you could take your old bags, which would be transformed while you watch into a personalised shopper. My design is unique because the method used in making the bag results in a different product every time.
Hi,
I would like to get hold of Kirsten Skidmore urgently. I would appreciate it if she could e-mail me her contact details, as Vodacom might be interested in her product featured in the House & Leisure March 2009 issue.
