by Herman Manson (@marklives) Brand South Africa’s advertising and digital marketing accounts are out to tender; in the instance of its digital business, for a third time in less than two years. Brand SA is mandated to build South Africa’s nation brand reputation internationally, while domestically it aims to build pride and patriotism among South Africans.

Brand SA is seeking to appoint “a pool of three brand agencies who will assist in the implementation of its mandate domestically and internationally”. The bidders will be responsible for the following services and should have credentials in the development of “proactive and coordinated marketing, communication and reputation management strategies” over a period of three years. The tender concludes on 1 April 2019. A compulsary briefing will be held on Monday 11 March at 11am.

The last time the brand account went out to pitch was in 2016, when the contract was awarded to The Odd Number, FCB Africa, BrandFusion and Ebony + Ivory.

Brand SA is also seeking a new digital agency; this tender closes on 20 March 2019. This five-year contract covers digital strategy development, social media management, digital content development and “webmaster technical support”.

Twice during 2017

The digital business went out on tender twice over the course of 2017 — with no contract awarded. One previous tender closed on 8 December 2017 and another on 26 June 2017.

For the tender closing 8 December 2017, the following bidders were listed: Riverbed, Fogg Agency, Avatar Agency, Prosperosa 360, Clockwork Digital, EOH Mthombo, Sadmon Projects and Consulting, Black Snow Group, King James Advertising Cape Town [sic], M&C Saatchi Abel, Promise Brand Specialists, Joe Public, BluFlamingo and 1 Take Media (JV), eNitiate, Nubia Network, Flow Communications, Thirty Four Degrees, Media Mix 360, Praekelt Digital SA, Society Ink, Hello Computer and Publicis Communications. No contract was awarded.

For the tender closing 26 June 2017, the list of bidders included Digital Republic Consulting, Flow Communications, Cut To Black Media, Nubia Network, The Odd Number, Ebony + Ivory, Praekelt Digital SA, Plum Factory, Society Ink and Michael James O’Brien (JV), eNitiate, Ingenuitive Design Lab and Straight Twisted CC (JV), P & P Maintenance Services, Thirty Four Degrees, Prosperosa 360, Breeze Website Designers, Avatar Agency and EOH Mthombo. Again, no contract was awarded.
