by Herman Manson (@marklives) Chicken Licken has appointed Joe Public after parting ways with its agency of the last 13 years: Net#work BBDO. Joe Public holds the entire account, effective 1 July 2016; it will be one of the agency’s top three pieces of business.
Joe Public United chief creative officer, Pepe Marais, told MarkLives the agency has always wanted to work on Chicken Licken — a brand that has grown from a small township brand into a R1bn business, with franchises across the country.
No pitch involved
There was no pitch involved, he says. Chicken Licken founder, George Sombonos, approached the agency after watching the market for some time. Marais believes that Joe Public’s entrepreneurial owner-managed culture fits well with that of Chicken Licken.
Marais adds that Chicken Licken is a premium account to hold, not just because of the size of the business but also for the calibre of creative it expects from its agency.
The agency is investing heavily in expanding its creative resource in a bid to up delivery for clients and preferably over-deliver, he says.
