tame Times take on Sunday

Ads24 has launched a new mass-market local newspaper, this time in Gauteng. Kasi on Sunday goes live on 3 April 2016 and will be distributed free in Kathorus, with a 55 000 print run.

Says Shane Jacobs, Ads24: business manager (inland), “This new tame Times local paper provides greater reach in the area. We saw a gap in the market for a new Sunday local title as there are plenty of stokvels, burial societies and consortia-buying meetings in this vibrant area on a Sunday.”

Ads24 recognised the need to be proactive in the current economic climate and has embraced this in the distribution strategy for Kasi on Sunday, which will be 75% door-to-door and 25% bulk drops at taxi ranks, bus and train stations, shopping centres, churches, sporting events and shebeens.

The Thursday distribution day of Kasi is also changing to a Friday, because Fridays are ideal for retail advertising.

Early February saw the launch of the first-ever freesheet in Queenstown. This Media24 local title, the Queenstown Express, has had an initial print run of 20 000 copies serving this centrally located community in the Eastern Cape. It reaches a small population that has not had access to its own free local newspaper. With its radio partnership with VukaniFM community radio station, the Queenstown Express offer mass marketing in the area.

Vir Altyd takes box-office lead

Local romantic adventure film, Vir Altyd, has set a new record for South Africa cinemas, surpassing the coveted no. 1 spot in earnings for Afrikaans films by raking in R13.4m in four weeks.

Vir Altyd was produced by the same team as the successful Pad na jou Hart: 17 FilmStreet Media and The Film Factory.

Says Pieter Geldenhuys of Ster-Kinekor Entertainment, the distributor of Vir Altyd, “We confirm that Vir Altyd now has the highest box-office income for an Afrikaans movie. We are overjoyed with the success and the film is still showing countrywide.”

The film tells the story of Hugo (Ivan Botha) and Nina (Donnalee Roberts) who grow up as best friends, despite her family’s misgivings, but lose contact when an incident changes their lives forever, only to meet up as separate bridal couples 10 years later.
