INTERNATIONAL

Bath Life, May 2015

Bath Life, May 2015It’s sheer co-incidence that the first time I hear/see more about Bath Life magazine is when it has a ‘bath-related’ image on its cover. No, it’s not about people and their baths, but rather about the “very best of local living” in the city of Bath, which is located just outside of Bristol.

I found the cover completely mesmerising and it leaves me with so many questions. Read the full issue of Bath life here.

Crumbs (Cotswolds Issue), May 2015

Crumbs (Cotswolds Issue), May 2015I never knew it but Crumbs actually has three different issues: Bevon, Bath & Bristol, and Cotswolds. Crumbs Bevon launched with the May 2015 issue, but I’m focusing on the Crumbs Cotswolds cover this week, as it gives us raspberry ridiculousness with this rad red cover. Read this issue here.

The Independent Magazine, 16 May 2015

The Independent Magazine, 16 May 2015Wow! Quite scary, right?! The cover makes a massive statement to illustrate the cover story “Electric ladyland: Is virtual sex a reality?” Definitely a cover that makes you want to know and read more, right? I aim to please, so click here for your reading ‘pleasure’.

WIRED, June 2015

WIRED, June 2015A magical two-page gate-fold to celebrate the magic that we see on our screens on a daily basis, as WIRED takes readers “Inside the MAGIC factory” which includes interviews with the people who make it all possible.

But, when researching this cover, there’s something that’s causing a lot of debate amongst Star Wars fans…They’ve noticed that, if you zoom into the document that’s under Rian Johnson’s left foot, you can read “SW EP VIII”, which would mean it could be the script for the Star Wars Episode VIII movie launching on 26 May 2017. Or it could just be a dummy script.

Well, anything that creates hype for WIRED magazine, I say… :-)

SOUTH AFRICAN

Go!/Weg!, June 2015 Go!/Weg!, June 2015

A great nature cover, showing the power and beauty of the outdoors and those that live among each other — and that everything is centred makes it that much more impactful.

MediaSlutMagLove by @MediaSlut is a regular slot featuring the best local and international magazine covers every week, recognising well thought-out, powerful and interesting (and hopefully all three-in-one) covers and celebrating the mix of pragmatism, creativity and personal taste that created each of them. The (for now anonymous) blogger behind MediaSlut knows way too much for his own good about media in South Africa, magazines in particular. His mission is to show when SA magazines fail but, most importantly, also when they succeed. If you’re looking for a library about SA magazines and news, this is your one-stop pitstop.
