INTERNATIONAL

ELLE UK, May 2015

ELLE UK, May 2015: Subscribers' coverELLE UK, May 2015: On-shelf cover
The May 2015 issue of ELLE UK features one of my favourite actors, Rebel Wilson, and she really looks amazing in the pictures (and behind-the-scenes video below!).

When I first saw the fully body cover of Rebel, I thought, “At last they took the risk of placing a full body picture of a bigger bodied woman on the cover!” — only to spot that this is actually the subscribers’ cover, and that the on-shelf cover is still the ‘safe option’ with a very (very) close crop.

Either way, I love her, and I love her black and white cover that the lucky subscribers received.

Make sure you watch the behind-the-scenes video here:

Feast

Feast: The Chefs IssueDilemma: How to feature a wide variety of chefs in your “chefs issue”?

Solution: Place their beautiful dishes on the cover, on top of what looks like a tablecloth filled with their signatures!

Le Parisien Magazine, 27 March 2015

Le Parisien Magazine, 27 March 2015Jean Paul Gaultier is synonymous with these blue-and-white stripes, and so are the stripes to Gaultier.

For this issue with a focus on this “coolest fashion designer”, Le Parisien physically draped him the fabric, with him ‘climbing out of it’ limb by limb. Striking.

LOCAL

kykNET, April–June 2015

kykNET, April–June 2015The movie “Ballade vir ’n Enkeling” is making absolute waves in the Afrikaans community, with everyone wanting a piece of it, and some saying it’s the best Afrikaans movie so far!

kykNET relaunched its new (now quarterly) magazine with Armand Aucamp and Donnalee Roberts on the cover, as their characters Jacques Rynhard and Carina Human. The cover fits in perfectly with the tone of the movie, and makes me want to watch it even more now!

The new-look, new-everything magazine is also really good, actually, with great articles and features! Download the free issue from MySubs right here.

Taalgenoot, Autumn 2015

Taalgenoot, Autumn 2015I’m really super-impressed with recent Taalgenoot covers, with this one reaching even new heights! An amazing concept coming together with great photography, lighting and styling!

MediaSlutMagLove by @MediaSlut is a regular slot featuring the best local and international magazine covers every week, recognising well thought-out, powerful and interesting (and hopefully all three-in-one) covers and celebrating the mix of pragmatism, creativity and personal taste that created each of them. The (for now anonymous) blogger behind MediaSlut knows way too much for his own good about media in South Africa, magazines in particular. His mission is to show when SA magazines fail but, most importantly, also when they succeed. If you’re looking for a library about SA magazines and news, this is your one-stop pitstop.
