by MediaSlut (@MediaSlut) My choice of the best international magazine covers in MagLove this week:

  • The New York Times Magazine
  • Thursday Magazine
  • TIME (Digital)
  • Esquire

INTERNATIONAL

The New York Times Magazine, 31 August 201

The New York Times Magazine, 31 August 2014I don’t even want to say too much about this cover, as I think the visual imagery, linked to the cover story, says it all!

Definitely one of my favourite covers of the year so far, purely for its brilliance in covering the story!

And the background story will make you appreciate this cover even more

Thursday Magazine

Thursday magazineThursday Magazine does it again by thinking out of the box when designing its covers and cover stories!

Just so clever and witty!

TIME (Digital)

TIME (Digital): Never OfflineThis digital TIME cover captures the world we’re busy moving into — perfectly.

This cover is in connection with the new Apple Watch that was announced earlier this week, and how “wearable tech will change your life”.

Scary but as they say, “Like it or not.”

Esquire, October 2014

Esquire, October 2014: It's not all wet towels and naked women Esquire, October 2014: Try. Fail. Who cares? Esquire, October 2014: A fool at 40 is a fool forever

Esquire has three split covers with its October 2014 issue, with all three of them having very strong typographical elements with not an image in sight.

Just typography. Just awesome!

MediaSlutMagLove by @MediaSlut is a regular slot featuring the best local and international magazine covers every week, recognising well thought-out, powerful and interesting (and hopefully all three-in-one) covers and celebrating the mix of pragmatism, creativity and personal taste that created each of them. The (for now anonymous) blogger behind MediaSlutknows way too much for his own good about media in South Africa, magazines in particular. His mission is to show when SA magazines fail but, most importantly, also when they succeed. If you’re looking for a library about SA magazines and news, this is your one-stop pitstop.
