by MediaSlut (@MediaSlut) My choice of the best international magazine covers in MagLove this week:

  • MARK
  • Super Interessante (Brazil)
  • (Australian) Homespun
  • The New York Times Magazine

INTERNATIONAL

 MARK, June/July 2014

MARK, June/July 2014In case you didn’t know, MARK is the architectual counterpart to FRAME magazine, “focusing exclusively on the world of contemporary architecture”.

So it’s very fitting, and extremely striking and effective, that its celebrating its 50th issue by setting it in stone… Brilliant!

Super Interessante (Brazil)

Super Interessante (Brazil)Hitler. Barcode-moustache. Win!

(Australian) Homespun, May 2014(Australian) Homespun, May 2014

For its May 2014 issue, Homespun has moved away from its normal cover-recipe; I like it, as it states exactly what it is, and speaks directly to the target audience!

It remind me of our local crafts magazines Idees and Ideas but that’s a compliment, either way.

The New York Times Magazine, 25 May 2014

The New York Times Magazine, 25 May 2014The New York Times Magazine is one of those titles that just knows how to take a very complicated topic, break it down, and illustrate it perfectly on the cover that would make ever a first grader understand what it’s all about!

MediaSlutMagLove by @MediaSlut is a regular slot featuring the best local and international magazine covers every week, recognising well thought-out, powerful and interesting (and hopefully all three-in-one) covers and celebrating the mix of pragmatism, creativity and personal taste that created each of them. The (for now anonymous) blogger behind MediaSlut knows way too much for his own good about media in South Africa, magazines in particular. His mission is to show when SA magazines fail but, most importantly, also when they succeed. If you’re looking for a library about SA magazines and news, this is your one-stop pitstop.
