INTERNATIONAL

Winter (a mag for all seasons), Issue #1

Winter (a mag for all seasons), Issue #1

Winter magazine launched last week Thursday, 20 March 2014, with the help of crowdfunding, which I find very admirable, and possibly a new trend to look out for, for smaller publishers.

This from about the launch date, and the title: “The last day of winter as per calendar. It was something of a group therapy project; we wanted something good to come out of the terrible Berlin winter. However, the experience and the outcome have been so good that we’ve decided to make Summer, Spring and Autumn magazines, too, in that order and under the title ‘A Mag For All Seasons’.”

I think the cover encapsulates the feeling of a harsh winter perfectly, and it has so much emotion and feeling in it!

OHMYDOG!, Issue #21

OHMYDOG!, Issue #21

Don’t worry, I didn’t include the cover of this title because of its cover design appeal… I included it because I find the name of the title, OhMyDog!, very smart and different, and the little design effects on the letters “o” very cute.

OUT, April 2014

OUT, April 2014

It’s a glitter-explosion!!! Neil Patrick Harris is covered in glitter on the cover of the latest OUT issue. Very striking and effective, but the OUT cover with his wedding picture (February 2012) is still one of my favourites with Harris

STYLIST, 12 March 2014

STYLIST, 12 March 2014

Oh my…! Love this cover for a number of reasons! Actually, I think it’s one of my favourite covers of 2014 so far…

The editorial team has taken the main story (“The new religion – Why women are swapping sermons for self-help”) and illustrated it with a design element all of us can relate to churches, done brilliantly and realistically!

You can read the article here.

TAMABI, various

I’ve included some covers of TAMABI as it’s the first time I’ve seen this magazine, and I think it’s a great example of how to be creative with a title and to just think out of the box!

What makes it even more interesting is that this title is done for and by the TAMA Art University in Tokyo! Creative directors, watch and learn…
