With the help of Google Trends we are publishing the top 10 searched for phrases (minus the sexy stuff of course) by South Africans on Google over the previous seven days.

Last week saw the release of the iPad Mini as well as Windows 8. Guess which brand caught more shine amongst South Africans!

Last of brands making the listing of fast rising searches last week including Gumtree, PSL, ABSA, BA, Dischem, Incredible Connection (thanks to the iPad Mini?), Mango and Netbank (Nedbank?).

  1. I think Alan has a fair point there. Users have a tendency to search for services they intend to use instead of going directly to the url.

  2. Hi Tim, Alan – thanks for your feedback. You are right of course. The list reflects (again minus the sexy stuff) what services South Africans are using on the Internet. And what brands! I think the list is very revealing ion terms of what we are doing online (social media, banking towards the end of the month, looking at classifieds etc) and what brands play an important role in our online activities.

    That said I’ll experiment a little to see how viable it is to come up with a list that strips out logins etc (which of course also shows the limits of Internet literacy amongst South Africa’s netizens).
