South African webmail host Webmail International and Gardale Solutions, the owners of the South African Gmail domain, have combined forces to form a local free email solution on the www.gmail.co.za domain.
Gardale has owned the domain name since mid 2003 and claims the local domain name is abbreviated from Gardale Mail. Google’s offering launched April 2004 as an invitation-only beta release and became available to the general public in February 2007.
