by Herman Manson (@marklivesSanlam has “re-scoped” its existing contract with ad agency MetropolitanRepublic. Ainsley Moos, head: group communications at Sanlam, has confirmed the news to MarkLives after queries as to whether the agency/client relationship between Sanlam and MetropolitanRepublic remained in place.

In a brief statement, the group said that it had “re-scoped” its current contractual relationship with MetropolitanRepublic but that it is retaining the agency on a limited capacity. No reasons for the decision were forthcoming.

“Sanlam has reached an agreement with MetropolitanRepublic to re-scope their contract and they will remain on board in a limited capacity,” reads the statement from Moos.

MetropolitanRepublic won the Sanlam account in early 2013. It subsequently launched an office in Cape Town to help the service the business, which continued to be run through the Johannesburg agency.

MetropolitanRepublic CEO Alison Deeb says the changed terms of the contract between Sanlam and MetropolitanRepublic will not impact upon either the future of the Cape Town agency or job security for staff at the agency. “We have exciting plans fo Cape Town,” says Deeb, adding that, while there will be an impact upon the agency, it won’t include any job losses.
