by MarkLives (@marklives) Nahana Communications Group‘s FCB Joburg has lost the Absa Retail & Business Banking South Africa account, a part of the Barclays Africa Group (now Absa Group) business-to-consumer (B2C) pitch that it won in 2016 which also included the group’s African regional offices.
Absa confirmed the loss and the new agency in an emailed response to MarkLives: “In aligning with its rebrand and new business strategy, Absa’s Retail & Business Banking South Africa (RBB SA) division has appointed Wunderman Thompson as its new creative agency, effective 1 December 2019. This comes after a comprehensive open-market procurement process. RBB SA thanks FCB for their contribution to Absa’s brand refresh and positioning over the last three years, and wish them well in their future endeavours. FCB continues to provide services to Absa across all markets.”
Comments Thabang Skwambane, FCB Joburg managing director, “FCB Joburg and everyone who has worked on the account is exceptionally proud of the work we have delivered since winning the business in 2016. Despite this loss, FCB Joburg is in an incredibly good place. We are going to end 2019 on a positive note [all things considerd], and we are eagerly looking forward to 2020.”
