Essays of Africa, September 2016
Miss South Africa 2016, Ntandoyenkosi Kunene, is looking beautiful and Spring-y — and crushing that pose — on the cover of the latest issue of Essays of Africa.
Financial Mail, 1 September 2016
It does indeed feel like the ‘endgame’ and also like doom and gloom is just behind those big locked vault doors…! Financial Mail is of the opinion that “it seem[s] inevitable that Pravin Gordhan will be ousted as finance minister”, and takes a look at the implications. New York Design Hunting, Fall 2016/Winter 2017
Sit. Stay. Me. There!
Soccer Illustrated (various)
CoverJunkie featured these two older covers of Soccer Illustrated, and they’re just too striking and creative not to share! The Red cover features Gareth Bale, illustrated by Lorenzo Imperato. The Green cover features the “big boss of football”, illustrated by Simone Colasante.
The New York Times Magazine, 4 September 2016
Edwards Snowden is such a fascinating person and persona that I’m personally really looking forward to the new movie, Snowden, that focuses upon his life, the impact of his decisions and how it all came about. TIME, 12 September 2016
TIME has taken multiple exposure to a completely new level; together, all these images create a powerful, beautiful image for the cover story “The Exercise Cure”. The article starts off with: “Doctors, researchers, scientists — even ancient philosophers — have long claimed exercise works like a miracle drug. Now they have proof”. I’ll start packing my gym bag while you read why here…
MagLove by @MediaSlut is a regular slot featuring the best local and international magazine covers every week, recognising well thought-out, powerful and interesting (and hopefully all three-in-one) covers and celebrating the mix of pragmatism, creativity and personal taste that created each of them. The anonymous (for now) blogger behind MediaSlut knows way too much for his own good about media in South Africa, magazines in particular. His mission is to show when SA magazines fail but, most importantly, also when they succeed. If you’re looking for a library about SA magazines and news, this is your one-stop pitstop.
