INTERNATIONAL

Men’s Journal, November 2015

Men's Journal November 2015Definitely an eye-catching cover and main cover line for any tourists, or locals, who likes to explore their country. There’s just not enough leave or money to be able to explore all of these…

Money, October 2015

Money, October 2015But I’m sure this (fictional) US$1000 would go far to fund that holiday! Smart move by Money to push its main story this way. I mean, who doesn’t like the sight of money?

Rogue, October 2015

Rogue, October 2015Look. Now look again. That’s a lot of money right there, but also a very (very) scary sight, and a reality not just for the Philippines but many others.

Wanderlust, October 2015

Wanderlust, October 2015Thank goodness for nature and stunning scenery to help counter some of the stark images out there in the world. While the Rogue cover made me feel quite anxious, now it feels as if I can breathe again…

Vpro Gids, 3 October 2015

VPRO (Netherlands,) 3 October 2015There’s a lot of layers to this abstract artwork of ‘trees’ on this cover. I didn’t notice immediately that it was trees, but saw instead an abstract artwork with ‘eyes’, or a ‘face’ in the middle. Maybe that’s the intention… The ‘scratched’ cover line reads, “Wood for the Fire, by Maarten ‘Thart”.

MediaSlutMagLove by @MediaSlut is a regular slot featuring the best local and international magazine covers every week, recognising well thought-out, powerful and interesting (and hopefully all three-in-one) covers and celebrating the mix of pragmatism, creativity and personal taste that created each of them. The (for now anonymous) blogger behind MediaSlut knows way too much for his own good about media in South Africa, magazines in particular. His mission is to show when SA magazines fail but, most importantly, also when they succeed. If you’re looking for a library about SA magazines and news, this is your one-stop pitstop.
