INTERNATIONAL

Interior (Taiwan), August 2015

Interior (Taiwan), August 2015Not sure if it’s a cinema or theatre, but what a sexy space, right!? Very creative, making it a striking cover.

National Geographic, October 2015

National Geographic, October 2015South African of the Year on the cover of National Geographic? Well, maybe not, but Homo Naledi definitely made international headlines and put South Africa on the map again — positively! I thought it was brilliant how the media launch was timed perfectly with the launch of this October 2015 issue, and what a great and insightful article to go with it.

The New York Times Style Magazine, 11 September 2015

New York Times Style Mag, 11 September 2015There’s something ultra-sexy about this Michael Fassbender cover… Well, it’s not like he has do to very much in general to come across as sexy, but he pulls it off lying in a bath, with all his clothes on, and reading. Maybe also strange, but definitely sexy!

Want more? Then read the digital version of this 206-page (stunning!) magazine right here. Be warned, there’s A LOT of advertising in the beginning of the issue…

PHOTO, September 2015

PHOTO, September 2015The beauty of the female breast and naked form, celebrated by one of my favourite artists, P!NK!

The Sunday Times Magazine, September 2015

The Sunday Times Magazine, September 2015Sjoe, a ’70s flash-back — Grace Jones! It’s so bold and bright that it feels as if “beautiful” should also be added to this sentence… in a strange way.

TIME, 21 September 2015

TIME, 21 September 2015In July 2015, TIME published its “Answers Issue”, which I also selected for a MagLove post, and this time around it seems to be the “Questions Issue”. Once again, a way has been found to place as many examples as possible on the cover, with a smart design element of raised question marks popping up all over the ‘paper’.

If this is also your type of issue, make sure you visit the “Question Everything” section online — ensure you have enough time as there’s a lot of (interesting) reading material to get through…

MediaSlutMagLove by @MediaSlut is a regular slot featuring the best local and international magazine covers every week, recognising well thought-out, powerful and interesting (and hopefully all three-in-one) covers and celebrating the mix of pragmatism, creativity and personal taste that created each of them. The (for now anonymous) blogger behind MediaSlut knows way too much for his own good about media in South Africa, magazines in particular. His mission is to show when SA magazines fail but, most importantly, also when they succeed. If you’re looking for a library about SA magazines and news, this is your one-stop pitstop.
