INTERNATIONAL
Columbus Monthly, July 2015
No, it’s not Photoshop! It’s actual earth, seeds, and flower petals, all done by hand! Don’t believe me? Watch this beauty grow from nothing into something:
Das Magazin (Switzerland)
I was a bit late with this one, but the picture, along with (translated) “All my fault — Confessions from surgeons”, written in what looks like blood just made it such a bold, strong, and touching cover.
The New Review
What with Wimbledon in full swing, this cover immediately caught my eye with its minimal selection of bold colours and the symmetry of all the elements. From what I understand, this picture isn’t from Wimbledon (no grass, and no all-white outfit), but I still consider it worthy enough.
TIME, 6 July 2015
I just love issues like these, and what a cool way of illustrating what the issue is all about — The Answers Issue.
So if you want to know where the best beach is in the US, or the safest place to sit on a plane, what the best job in America is, or even just what you should order at a fast-food chain, click on the links or go out to buy the issue. I have.
SOUTH AFRICAN
Taalgenoot, Winter 2015
An extremely powerful cover from the Taalgenoot team for its Winter 2015 cover!
If you look closely, you’ll see that his beard is made up of Afrikaans sentences… For a closer look, view the first 10 pages here.

MagLove by @MediaSlut is a regular slot featuring the best local and international magazine covers every week, recognising well thought-out, powerful and interesting (and hopefully all three-in-one) covers and celebrating the mix of pragmatism, creativity and personal taste that created each of them. The (for now anonymous) blogger behind MediaSlut knows way too much for his own good about media in South Africa, magazines in particular. His mission is to show when SA magazines fail but, most importantly, also when they succeed. If you’re looking for a library about SA magazines and news, this is your one-stop pitstop.
