INTERNATIONAL
F*cking Young! (Spain), Autumn/Winter 2014
The new issue, titled “Mountain”, is accompanied by a truly striking (and oddly sexy) image. This is to celebrate F*cking Young! that launched five years ago, and “getting to where we are today [which] was like climbing a mountain, and a large one at that,” according to the editors.
You can read what the editors have to say about this issue, and the significance behind it, here.

Numéro (France)
South Africans might not be familiar with the cover model, or recognise him, but this is popular Belgian singer-songwriter Paul van Haver (or, as he’s better known, Stromae).
I’m loving the vibrancy and arty-ness of his Numéro cover!
[Here’s a video, with English sub-titles, of one of his hit pop songs — ed-at-large]
The Sunday Times Magazine, 5 October 2014

To continue the conversation, readers were invited to share their experience(s) by tweeting @TheSTMagazine with the hashtag #IamMuslim, which is also splashed on the covers, or to email in.
It’s definitely worth searching for #IamMuslim to view the mixed (but mainly positive) response.
TIME, 13 October 2014

One, unplanned and unstyled, captures the “Umbrella Revolution” currently happening in Hong Kong perfectly. The other is clinical, clean and styled — the direct opposite of Ebola.

MagLove by @MediaSlut is a regular slot featuring the best local and international magazine covers every week, recognising well thought-out, powerful and interesting (and hopefully all three-in-one) covers and celebrating the mix of pragmatism, creativity and personal taste that created each of them. The (for now anonymous) blogger behind MediaSlut knows way too much for his own good about media in South Africa, magazines in particular. His mission is to show when SA magazines fail but, most importantly, also when they succeed. If you’re looking for a library about SA magazines and news, this is your one-stop pitstop.
