INTERNATIONAL
ShortList, 17 July 2014
This is Caeser. Caeser from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Caeser is looking very stylish on ShortList’s cover.
Caeser continues his epic style sense by showing other luxury tailored suits in the issue, but you can view his amazing modeling right here.
Midwives, Issue #4, 2014
Yes, Midwives is a real title which is published on behalf of the Royal College of Midwives in the UK.
Although the topic discussed on the cover (yes, female genital mutilation) is not something that pops up in discussions everyday, the title has illustrated this topic in a respectable and captivating way, perfect for its market…
Newsweek, 18 July 2014
What with the issue dated 18 July 2014, and the MH17 catastrophe that happened on 17 July 2014, I’m not sure if this cover has any relation to it, but may well have.
I got shivers down my spine when I saw the cover, as the possibility of another World War seems that more probable after every similar catastrophe.
Time Out (London), 22 July 2014
Are the creatives at Time Out London smoking something special, because its covers are really rocking lately with creativity!
For its Cheap issue, the team produced this little (cheap) gem. Do yourself a favour and read it all…
LOCAL
ELLE South Africa, August 2014
ELLE South Africa is all about fashion, so it doesn’t happen regularly (or ever?) that it has a muted cover which doesn’t scream “FASHION!”.
But for me, this August 2014 issue, with the darkish black-and-white picture of Angelina Jolie, just works. And with a hint of the colour red…
Hope this big leap/change doesn’t scare people off but I doubt it will.

MagLove by @MediaSlut is a regular slot featuring the best local and international magazine covers every week, recognising well thought-out, powerful and interesting (and hopefully all three-in-one) covers and celebrating the mix of pragmatism, creativity and personal taste that created each of them. The (for now anonymous) blogger behind MediaSlutknows way too much for his own good about media in South Africa, magazines in particular. His mission is to show when SA magazines fail but, most importantly, also when they succeed. If you’re looking for a library about SA magazines and news, this is your one-stop pitstop.
