by MediaSlut (@MediaSlut) My choice of the best international and local magazine covers in MagLove this week:

  • Metropoli
  • Bloomberg Businessweek
  • STYLIST (France)
  • Cosmopolitan (various countries)
  • WEGRY

INTERNATIONAL

Metropoli

MetropoliThese people just keep on impressing me and coming up with more and more creative ways of displaying the name “Metropoli”!

The full name is La Luna de Metrópoli, and it’s a weekly supplement of the Spanish newspaper El Mundo. It really amazes me that the team is able to turn out this type of quality covers week after week…

Bloomberg Businessweek, 23 June 2014

Bloomberg Businessweek, 23 June 2014The latest cover of Bloomberg Businessweek reminds me a lot of the Oscar Pistorius trial, but it’s also true of any court case, actually. Especially when big money is involved…

The reason I really like this cover is because it gives you just enough to make you want to read and know more. And that’s exactly what I did!

And so can you — read the full article right right here!

STYLIST (France), 12 June 2014

STYLIST (France), 12 June 2014I’ve seen this cover concept done a few times, but this is definitely one of the best!

On the cover the French STYLIST magazine is fashion designer JC de Castelbajac but, other than putting his own unique stamp on the cover, I read that he also art-directed the whole magazine!

You can see the cover coming to life in the Instagram image that was taken on set…

LOCAL

Cosmopolitan, July 2014

Cosmopolitan (South Africa), July 2014
Cosmopolitan (US), July 2014Cosmopolitan (Australia), July 2014Cosmopolitan (Lithuania), July 2014
Cosmopolitan (Germany), July 2014Cosmopolitan (Singapore), July 2014
Cosmopolitan (UK), July 2014Cosmopolitan (Spain), July 2014

I know, there’s nothing especially “WOW” about the July 2014 cover of Cosmopolitan South African but, when you put all the July 2014 Cosmopolitan covers of all the international versions together, you get a completely different picture!Yip, Katy Perry is the first person every to appear on every single July 2014 cover of all 62 editions published all over the world!

I was only able to trace some of the covers as the July 2014 issues of most of the countries are only published a bit later. You can read more about this here.

WEGRY, June 2014

WEGRY, June 2014This issue of WEGRY has been on shelf for a while, but I only spotted it recently and thought I just had to share it — not necessarily because it’s unique or doing something different but because it’s captured something magical on this cover that should speak directly to its target audience!

When you’re an outdoor enthusiast, who wouldn’t want to be the person on the cover, having a braai under millions and millions of stars…?!

Magical!

MediaSlutMagLove by @MediaSlut is a regular slot featuring the best local and international magazine covers every week, recognising well thought-out, powerful and interesting (and hopefully all three-in-one) covers and celebrating the mix of pragmatism, creativity and personal taste that created each of them. The (for now anonymous) blogger behind MediaSlut knows way too much for his own good about media in South Africa, magazines in particular.
