Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin
With the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil officially kicking off in 34 days time, we can definitely expect more and more World Cup-related covers and cover stories, including about host cities.
The latest Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin cover with the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro really caught my attention, and it was used very smartly in being incorporated into the coverline “Eine stadt in der schwebe”. Direct translation is “a city in the hover”, but probably better translated to “the hovering city”.

A very inspiring Sports Illustrated cover of the anniversary of the Boston Marathon Bombings… It got together a crowd of 3 000 people at 7am to participate in this cover image that speaks much more than 3 000 words! You can read more about this special shoot here and here.
Yankee, May/June 2014
We’ve seen cover lines written in and on chocolate, chalk, paint and even with pastry… A new one for me, and rather a nice idea, comes from Yankee’s latest cover.
Yankee, “New England’s magazine”, took the ocean theme it has with its cover further by using the fishing net floaters as the spot to paint on the cover lines, and it works very well.

What is IEEE, you ask? It is “the world’s largest engineering association”. Knowing this, don’t you also think that this is a really cool cover for such an industry association?!

Golf Digest South Africa, May 2014
Bright yellow — and with one massive cover line screaming “Top 100 Courses”. How can you miss this on the shelf, as it just jumps out at you?! It almost reminds me of a hazard symbol… a warning sign to golf addicts who would now want to try out all 100 Top Golf courses!

Lupita Nyong’o is one of the people that, if she’s on your cover, she won’t just look amazing but your cover will also look the best it’s done in ages!
It would have been very easy for Marie Claire South Africa to repurpose one of the Marie Claire International brands’ Lupita-covers for the local version, but it went a step further, made its own, and created a cover and cover image that looks like a work of art…
