  • FX
  • New York
  • TIME
  • Dossier (Art Issue)

INTERNATIONAL

FX, April 2014

FX, April 2014

I’m not too sure how real or photoshopped this is but for its April 2014 cover story, FX did “experiments with PLA bioplastics” and this seems to be the end result — good enough to eat!

Oh wait, that’s what it already says…

New York, 24 March 2014

New York, 24 March 2014, Billie Holiday New York, 24 March 2014, Jay-Z New York, 24 March 2014, Madonna New York, 24 March 2014, Barbara Streisand New York, 24 March 2014, The Notorious B.I.G. New York, 24 March 2014, Lou Reed
For New York’s annual “Yesteryear” Issue (love the theme!), it’s looking at “100 Years, 100 Songs, 100 Nights” and is running a split-cover with, from what I saw, six different artists that made the list in various stages of their lives…

The singers/performers featured on these covers include B.I.G., Barbara Streisand, Madonna, Jay-Z, Billie Holiday and Lou Reed. Very vintage-cool!

TIME, 31 March 2014

TIME 31 March 2014

Simple. Striking. Sad.

LOCAL

Dossier, April 2014

Dossier, April 2014, The Art Issue

Bonang Matheba is on the cover of the April 2014 issue of Dossier, which is its Art Issue, and also appears to have a 3D-element on the cover.

I love how the cover design picks up from Matheba’s dress, and displays her like the queen she is!

You can read the digital issue right here.

MediaSlutMagLove by @MediaSlut is a regular slot featuring the best local and international magazine covers every week, recognising well thought-out, powerful and interesting (and hopefully all three-in-one) covers and celebrating the mix of pragmatism, creativity and personal taste that created each of them. The (for now anonymous) blogger behind MediaSlut knows way too much for his own good about media in South Africa, magazines in particular. His mission is to show when SA magazines fail but, most importantly, also when they succeed. If you’re looking for a library about SA magazines and news, this is your one-stop pitstop.
