The ABC has released circulation statistics for the period January 2013 – March 2013.
ABC member circulation totals:
Weeklies: down to 630,268 from 697,254 for the previous corresponding period
Weekend: down to 2,292,053 from 2,443,855
Hydrid: down to 157,975 from 167,119
Dailies: down to 1,541,488 from 1,672,658
Shocking stat for the day: Out of 1,256,023 daily papers sold in South Africa only 2,894 were digital copies.
29 Oops! Newspapers just did it again
Yup print newspaper proprietors generally did a decent impression of Britney Spears’ career path judging by the current (continuing downward) trajectory of newspaper print circulation.

27 Breaking now: WPP buys NATIVE, joins agency to VML network
Digital agency NATIVE, one of the last major independent digital agencies in South Africa, was bought by WPP. VML, one of WPP’s digital marketing agencies and part of the Y&R network, acquired 76% of NATIVE for an undisclosed amount. NATIVE was rebranded NATIVE VML.
26 Agency execs Joburg’s ad execs most admired in 2012
Who is the most admired ad agency, creative director, or agency boss in the country? MarkLives asked South Africa’s ad agency MD’s and CEO’s to nominate their peers whom they most admired during the course of 2012.
Agency executives in Johannesburg picked Joe Public as the Johannesburg agency they most admired and its leader, Gareth Leck, as their most admired Joburg agency leader. Pete Case, Creative Director at Gloo Digital Design, was voted as their most admired creative director by Jozi ad executives. They selected Draftfcb as the Jozi agency with most success in integrating digital into its offering.

Its peers seem to have written off the agency, racked after its creation by above normal staff churn, trouble at winning new business and a perception that it had failed in delivering on its stated aim of becoming the lead digital agency with clients.
