Design Annotator with Uno de Waal is a new column featuring the top design work from South Africa’s biggest online creative showcase, Between 10 and 5, curated by Publisher Uno de Waal @Unodewaal.
This week I’m particularly in love with Ilse Moore’s underwater photography – the complexity and style of her shots are incredible. Then also remember about Portfolio Night that’s happening this week at McCann – check out this series of interviews with local creative directors. But first… What happens when two creative’s decide to pack and go travel for 5 months? Jeff Tyser and Kerryn-Lee Maggs give us beautiful infographics from their travels across Southern Africa.
Lost & Found infographics by local creative travellers
Joburg ad industry freelancers Jeff Tyser and Kerryn-Lee Maggs left all the clients and deadlines behind last year and went on an epic 5 month adventure around Southern Africa. Along with their trusty Landrover, Andy (the Landy), Jeff and Kerryn travelled 22 500 kms making their way through Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique.
Being creatives they documented every kilometre of the way on their blog, Lost & Found, with stories, photographs to make you weep at your desk and a beautiful series of infographic-style poster summations of their stay in each country.
We’re absolutely in love with their creations – have a look at more of Jeff and Kerryn’s work.

Ilse Moore creates beautiful underwater photography
The majority of local photographic artist Ilse Moore’s portfolio is underwater photography, which she specialises in. Currently based in the Vaal Triangle, her art and fashion photography has been published in British Vogue and featured on international sites like Fashion Gone Rogue. Ilse attained her Visual Arts degree in 2009 through the University of South Africa and her work covers commercial, bridal, fashion and conceptual photography, most of it set below the surface.
It was the contrary concept of flight which first made Ilse consider shooting under water. Water is also symbolic of many of the concepts she was working on at the time, being life, transformation and change.

New Identity For Daleah’s Restaurant in Braamfontein
Daleahs is a relaxed eatery serving quality, gourmet food since recently opening in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. Branding, design and illustration studio Says Who were there from the very beginning to conceptualise and design the restaurant’s CI.
They said, “The goal was to keep the design sleek and contemporary, and bring in some character by pairing it with the illustrations. We put together the corporate identity and complete look and feel. This included the logo, collateral, menu design, take-away packaging, coasters, and all the illustrations adorning the walls. This has been a labour of love for us and we are so proud of the finished product.”
