MarkLives.com runs a regular slot featuring the best local and international magazine covers every week. We recognise well thought out, powerful and interesting (and hopefully all three in one) magazine covers and celebrate the mix of pragmatism, creativity and personal taste that created each of them. By media blogger MediaSlut.

INTERNATIONAL

A Magazine Curated By, Issue 12

A-Magazine-Curated-By-Stephen-Jones

Such a creative concept, and they’ve already published 12 issues. Basically, the name of the magazine is “A Magazine Curated By…” and then with each issue, the letter “A” features big on the cover, while a chosen fashion designer designs and curates  the whole issue. This from their website: “We invite a guest curator – an international fashion designer, group or house – to develop innovative, personalised content to express their aesthetic and cultural values. Each issue celebrates this designer’s ethos: their people, their passion, their stories, emotions, fascinations, spontaneity and authenticity. Every A Magazine Curated By is a new story waiting to be told…”

Brilliant! It reminds me a lot of Design Indaba’s Where It’s At – a beautifully curated publication by Richard Hart. But of course that was Design Indaba’s only issue/annual so far, so we’ll have to see if the trend continues. But really love the concept.

Bravo!, April 2013

Bravo

If Google Translate is correct, this is the brilliant work of photographer Sebastião Salgado that toured over 30 countries, over eight years, to ‘capture landscapes and communities not yet affected by what we call progress’… or something along those lines.

EMPIRE (UK), April 2013

EMPIRE UK April 2013

This digital cover of EMPIRE magazine (UK) deserves some recognition, and is the perfect example of what path magazines are taking, and what readers can expect more and more of in the future as more and more magazines go digital. I’m excited about the endless possibilities…!

Paulette, April / May 2013

Paulette April May 2013

Paulette. Very busy and strange Paulette. But there’s something about this French magazines’ style and vibe that demands attention. It’s once again something unique and quite over the top. But it works (for this title).
