MarkLives.com runs a regular slot featuring the best local and international magazine covers every week. We recognise well thought out, powerful and interesting (and hopefully all three in one) magazine covers and celebrate the mix of pragmatism, creativity and personal taste that created each of them. By media blogger MediaSlut.
INTERNATIONAL
Field, Launch Issue
From what I can gather Field is a new, soccer related publication. What I really like is the creativity of the logo, the simple design, but yet so relevant to soccer. And as this is the launch issue, it seems like the massive number (did you spot the “1”?) will change with every issue. And the coverlines plotted like a game plan is just genius.
Metropolitan, April 2013
A very noticeable cover asking “Is Soho still sexy”, and from what I can gather from this article on CoverJunkie, the neon light effect of the logo and the mouth was actually designed by a Soho sign maker specifically for this cover. You can also page through this issue, here.
Elephant, #14
This cover with its dark photograph and bright orange side is exquisite… You can page through this issue here. You’ll notice that they are also featuring quite a few South African artists in this issue.
Houstonia, Launch Issue
I spotted this launch issue of Houstonia magazine (proudly from Houston, it seems…) on CoverJunkie, and it was really interesting to see the process their launch cover took to get to what was printed in the end. You can view the quick process below.
