by MarkLives (@marklives) Avatar South Africa has announced the appointment of Dr Ewoudt Cloete as chief digital officer across the Avatar agency group. Cloete joins from Wunderman, where he was head of social media (organic, paid and earned).
“Data enables us to be an agency that does not need a brief but proactively engag[es] clients on their business challenges and solutions, then collaborat[es] with client to write a brief in a high-paced environment,” says Veli Ngubane, Avatar group managing director. “This is why we will continue to expand our data and digital capacity in both our Joburg and Cape Town offices.”
Cloete started his career as a social media community manager, before moving into digital marketing, social media marketing and online reputation management, and working on blue-chip brands including Jaguar, Land Rover, Cadbury Dairy Milk, Samsung, Microsoft, PlayStation, Nando’s and Coca-Cola, according to his Linkedin profile. Past agencies includes Epic MSLGROUP and Aqua. He also completed his PhD in communication studies with a thesis titled “Exploring the organisational positioning of professional social media within a modern marketing communications context”.
