1. Agency Leaders: The most-admired ad agency in South Africa in 2013

The annual poll by the MarkLives team amongst South Africa’s leading agency executives has already revealed which agencies, agency leaders and creatives are most admired by regional peers. This set today’s results rather nicely: which city will play host to the most-admired agency an ad execs in the country? Will it be Johannesburg with Joe Public or Cape Town with Ogilvy Cape Town?

Having polled Cape Town’s agency leaders, we can now tell what those leading the city’s ad agencies think of their competitors, whom they see as effective managers and great creatives, and where they believe their future competition is likely to come from.

4. EXCLUSIVE: King James appointed to Sanlam, resigns Allan Gray
by Herman Manson. The King James Group has been appointed to handle the Sanlam Group advertising and communications account. This comes hot on the heels of Sanlam’s announcement on Thursday, 13 February 2014, that it was effectively ending the lead agency status of MetropolitanRepublic, which it had appointed just over a year ago.

5. Cell C drops Ogilvy, moves to Draftfcb Group
by Herman Manson. Cell C has moved its advertising account from Ogilvy Johannesburg to Draftfcb Group. News of the move broke Friday afternoon (17 January 2014) on social media.

by Herman Manson. Publicis Groupe has acquired independent agency MACHINE and is merging it with Publicis Worldwide South Africa to establish Publicis Machine. Publicis Groupe is currently reinvigorating its South African and African business through a number of agency acquisitions.

8. Allan Gray goes to Ogilvy Cape Town
by Herman Manson. Allan Gray has awarded its advertising business to Ogilvy & Mather Cape Town. The business went out to pitch after King James resigned as its agency after 11 years, following its appointment to handle the Sanlam Group advertising and communications account.
9. FoxP2 skips award shows, finds new inspiration
by Herman Manson. FoxP2 isn’t entering any award shows this year. Instead, it’s been investing that budget in sending staff members around the world to a series of conferences and events the agency hopes will inspire them, and their work, and align it with new ideas and international best practice.
10. Letter from NY: To sell or not to sell?
