INTERNATIONAL

Metropoli, 22 February 2014

Metropoli, 22 February 2014

Metropoli has done it again — taking a main story and making it come to life, not just on the cover, but also by incorporating its logo! This week, the cover story is roughly about “the ultimate weapon of the future — Robocop”. Not sure what else, but the cover and execution are flippen’ cool!

Rolling Stone US, 27 February 2014

Rolling Stone, 27 February 2014

Philip Seymour Hoffman. 1967 – 2014. A sad, mesmirising and haunting image and Rolling Stone cover…

Stylist, 5 February 2014

 Stylist, 5 February 2014

F is for Feminism; F is for Fail. According to Stylist. A simple idea that gets the message across!

Time Out London, 11 February 2014

Time Out London, 11 February 2014

How much more simple can you get? As it is said, less is more and, in this instance, less wins hands down!

LOCAL

Ideas, March 2014

Ideas, 3 March 2014

The Ideas/Idees teams seems to have pulled out all the stops with this cover, in celebration of their “Illustration Issue”. I think the concept, execution, design elements and even colours used are brilliant and this is definitely one of my favourite South African covers so far!

Go!/Weg!, March 2014

Go!/Weg!, 3 March 2014

Go! (and the Afrikaans version Weg!) is making this list because of the amazing scenic photography used on its March 2014 cover (all the covers have great photography but this one drew me in completely). It shows exactly how beautiful South Africa (and the Lowveld) is, if you just venture out a bit…

My Tyd (Rapport), 16 February 2014

My Tyd (Rapport), 16 February 2014 — penultimate edition

For My Tyd’s 100th and penultimate issue, it’s hit the ball out — all the way into outer space — by going with Kobus Vermeulen who is in line possibly to go to Mars, for the rest of his life, as a cover story! And it’s deserving of recognition for the photography, typography and everything that just came together.

However, while last weekend (Sunday 16 February) the editorial team hit it out of the park, they’ll also be “OUT!” as this Sunday’s issue (23 February) will be the last issue of My Tyd inserted into Rapport… a very sad day indeed.

My Tyd 1.7, 23 February 2014 — final edition
