TBWA plans up to six acquisitions
by Herman Manson (@marklives) TBWA is looking at as many as six more acquisitions spread out over the next four quarters, says Derek Bouwer, CEO at TBWA\South Africa. At the end of 2013, TBWA acquired 80% stake in youth marketing agency, HDI Youth Marketeers. It also increased its stake in marketing agency Openco to 51% from a previous holding of 30%.

Some independents are worried by the Competition Commission’s seeming lack of concern regarding this acquisition spree and the increased local-market dominance.
BrandsRock and Saatchi & Saatchi to merge
by Herman Manson (@marklives) BrandsRock and Saatchi & Saatchi are merging. Publicis Groupe is acquiring 100% of BrandsRock, founded by Mike Joubert five years ago, to launch a new brand in South Africa’s advertising universe, called Saatchi & Saatchi BrandsRock.
Cannes Lions 2014: Final awards from Cannes 2014
The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity has announced the final winners that took home trophies from the 2014 awards. Categories awarded include Film, Film Craft, Branded Content & Entertainment and the Innovation Lions, as well as the Titanium and Integrated category.
Cannes Lions 2014: Grand Prix, gold for SA
The International Festival of Creativity, Cannes Lions, has announced the winners in the Cyber, Design, Product Design, Press and Radio Lions categories, with Ogilvy & Mather Johannesburg taking the Grand Prix and three Gold Campaign Lions in the Radio category for its campaign ‘Teleconference’, ‘Kids Party’ and ‘Enrique Concert’, created for Lucozade.

Cannes Lions 2014: SA gets three Promo & Activation Lions bronzes
The International Festival of Creativity, Cannes Lions, has held the first of its four awards nights, announcing this year’s winners in the Creative Effectiveness, Direct, Promo & Activation and PR categories. Two bronzes went to FCB South Africa (Johannesburg) for Coca-Cola and the third bronze to TBWA Hunt Lascaris for Tiger Brands.
WPP buys The Hardy Boys
WPP operating company JWT has acquired a majority stake in Durban-based The Hardy Boys, whose clients include Unilever, Diageo, SA Home Loans, ADvTECH and RCL Foods, among others.
WPP strikes again, brings GREY back to SA
