Philip Ireland leaves Ireland/Davenport
Ireland/Davenport (a WPP agency) has announced that founding partner, Philip Ireland, will be leaving the agency. At the same time, it announced the appointment of Karabo Songo as CEO.
“Ireland/Davenport is eternally grateful for the enormous role that Phil has played in building the agency. In time, Phil will explore the many options that are available to someone of his talents and track record, but for now he will be taking a well-earned sabbatical from the industry,” the agency said in a media statement.
Songo is the founder of Olive Communications. The new management team will comprise Songo, Carmen Chilton (managing director), Adene van der Walt (executive strategy director) and John Davenport (founding partner and ECD).
The agency suffered a string of account losses in 2015 and 2016, including BMW, Vodacom and SA Tourism. It also lost MD Susan Napier at the end of June 2016, when she took up the position of marketing director for MRP, a division of Mr Price Group. Recent account wins include Refreshhh! Beverages, MAQ washing powder and GOtv.
