Khaya Dlanga new rain CMO
Khaya Dlanga is joining South Africa’s new data-only mobile network, rain, as chief marketing officer and group exco member from 8 November 2018 and will build rain’s brand “into something that is loved by consumers, produce really cool marketing campaigns, and, very importantly, drive our sales by getting consumers to our website (and, in future, retail and sales channels, as well),” according to the appointment announcement.
Dlanga was previously marketing manager for Amstel at Heineken, and senior communications manager at Coca-Cola South Africa. Before moving to client side, he was strategic creative planner at MetropolitanRepublic and copywriter at The Jupiter Drawing Room (Cape Town) and Black River FC. The announcement notes his role in launching various campaigns for Coca-Cola SA, some of which were subsequently adopted by Coca-Cola as international best practice. He was also responsible for the repositioning of the Amstel brand.
Dlanga is the author of In My Arrogant Opinion (2012), To Quote Myself: A Memoir (2015) and These Things Really Do Happen To Me (2018).
Dlanga will initially be based in Johannesburg but will relocate to Cape Town during 2019.
