#CampaignRadar: A serious country may be funny, too #NotSoSeriyaas
TOPS at SPAR recently launched two TV ads in which South Africans get to have a chuckle at themselves. We asked agency TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris Durban to explain the concept behind the campaign.

Explains TBWA: “TOPS at SPAR has taught the nation how to speak Party and had our very own Minister of Parties and Recreation petition to make Drinktionary SA’s 12th official language. We recruited Party Comrades and also made sure that everyone got to know a little more about alcohol in our Good Advice campaign. But for our latest outing, we wanted to put all the lightheartedness aside and tackle a very serious issue.
“In fact we wanted to take on all the ‘serious’ issues. From rolling blackouts, to escalating fuel costs, dwindling water supplies, bumbling corporate bureaucracies and unsolicited window cleaning, we wanted to showcase all of SA’s seriousness and counter it with a glass of not so serious. Because, if there’s one thing we know, it’s that South Africans love nothing more than getting together with mates, having a drink and having a laugh at our own wonderful country — in a most-responsible way, of course.”
