Empire, September 2016

Empire subscribers are in for a treat when they get their September 2016 issues, as they feature the ‘colourful’ Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad (played by Margot Robbie), and the ‘grey’ K-2SO from the new movie, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, that’s starting 16 December. Suicide Squad is already in South African cinemas.

Escapes (South Africa), September 2016

Escapes, September 2016

I’m heading to Zimbabwe next year, and can’t wait to also be “riding giants” and replicating this amazing photograph and cover! Wow, we are so blessed here in Africa! If you want a peek at the issue, click here.

Man (South Africa), September 2016

Man, September 2016

The Destiny MAN cover of April 2016 is still one of my favourites featuring DJ Black Coffee , but his appearance on the latest issue of Man is definitely making a splash of its own! Great styling of this fine gentleman, and clever usage of the coffee stain all over the cover! Here’s a peek here at this issue, too.

OUT, September 2016

OUT: Colton Haynes

“Swoon” — what a great word! And after following gay heartthrob, Colton Haynes (@ColtonLHaynes), a bit, and seeing this cover, it’s  definitely the best word to use! Colton is best known for his roles in Teen Wolf and Arrow, and you may read the full article about his “joy and heartache” here.

The New York Times Magazine, 21 August 2016

The New York Times Magazine, 21 August 2016

There’s something extremely poignant about this cover and seeing these people, artists in their own right, working on this amazing art piece. Award-winning photography, I say! Also can’t wait to find out more? Click right here.

Variety, 23 August 2016

Variety, 23 August 2016: Michelle Obama

And what a stunning “leading lady” she is… Variety interviewed Michelle Obama about how she “used Pop Culture Stardom to make an impact”, and if you’re a fan of FLOTUS, it’s a must-read. I’m looking forward to see what she’s be getting up to after she loses FLOTUS-status… only better things can come from this.

MediaSlutMagLove by @MediaSlut is a regular slot featuring the best local and international magazine covers every week, recognising well thought-out, powerful and interesting (and hopefully all three-in-one) covers and celebrating the mix of pragmatism, creativity and personal taste that created each of them. The anonymous (for now) blogger behind MediaSlut knows way too much for his own good about media in South Africa, magazines in particular. His mission is to show when SA magazines fail but, most importantly, also when they succeed. If you’re looking for a library about SA magazines and news, this is your one-stop pitstop.
