Magazine covers we love (this week!)

  •   Nov 2, 2012
  •   0

MarkLives.com runs a regular slot featuring the best local and international magazine covers every week. We recognise well thought out, powerful and interesting (and hopefully all three in one) magazine covers and celebrate the mix of pragmatism, creativity and personal taste that created each of them. By media blogger MediaSlut.

INTERNATIONAL

Bloomsberg Businessweek, 29 October 2012

‪I can only imagine how much fun it must have been for the Art Director and the editorial team to conceptualize and execute this cover, and to play around with shooting bottles of beer until they got the perfect one (which still shows just enough of the logo…).

Time Out Dubai, 31 October 2012

It’s great to see Art Directors that don’t take the normal structure of a magazine too seriously, but play around within the given borders, and create a perfectly executed cover that just screams the theme of the issue. And it’s great to see them include the logo in the design/concept, and not the other way around.

Antidote, Animal Issue

Wroar! I wonder to what extent this is also photoshopped, but in my dream world I hope it’s all thanks to fanastic make-up…

LOCAL

Woolworths TASTE, November 2012

The Woolworths TASTE team did something completely new with their November 2012 cover, and according to me very risky (here I explain why), but no one can say that this food-structure is not a work of art! I predict a few awards for this cover.

– The (for now anonymous) blogger behind MediaSlut knows way too much for his own good about media in South Africa. Magazines in particular. His mission is to show when South African magazines might fail, but most importantly, succeed. If you’re looking for a library about South African magazines and news, your one-stop pitstop is MediaSlut. #MagazinesForTheWin
